    Purpose of the Position

    This role is both administrative and relational, supporting the church’s mission by fostering connection, communication, and care within the congregation and wider community. It is typically a 32 hour a week position, dependent on church needs.

     

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Provide welcoming, responsive office leadership that supports the life and ministry of the church, creating a spirit of hospitality and care for all those who connect with the congregation. 
    2. Coordinate clear and consistent communication through weekly bulletins, newsletters, digital platforms and other tools to keep the congregation informed, connected, and engaged in the church’s ministry.
    3. Maintain church records and system, including the membership database, directory, attendance, and calendar, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and confidentiality.
    4. Support worship and congregational life by preparing materials, coordinating logistics, and assisting with seasonal services, events, and special celebrations.
    5. Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and church leaders to support ministries, meetings, and events, including preparing reports and materials for Session and other groups.
    6. Assist with financial administration in coordination with church leadership, including processing requests, maintaining records, and supporting regular reporting in alignment with established procedures.
    7. Help steward the church’s facilities and resources by coordinating building use, scheduling, vendors, and communication with community groups and renters.
    8. Provide compassionate administrative support for pastoral care moments, including memorial services and other significant life events in the congregation.
    9. Manage office operations including supplies, equipment, contracts, and general administrative functions to ensure smooth day to day operations.
    10. Perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall mission and ministry of the church. 

     

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED), proficient in spelling, grammar, writing and computer skills.

     

    Experience:  Business office experience requiring clerical, machine and computer skills.


    Skills:

    1. Proficiency in common office and communication tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace), with ability to learn church management and design platforms (e.g., Shelby Next, Canva, Constant Contact).
    2. Demonstrates discretion, confidentiality, and a welcoming, service-oriented approach in supporting the life of the church.
    3. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines independently. 
    4. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment, managing multiple responsibilities, frequent interruptions, and periods of independent work. 
    5. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with staff volunteers, members and the wider community.
    6. Attention to detail and ability to carry out administrative tasks accurately and efficiently.
    7. Collaborative and team-oriented, with a willingness to support others in shared ministry. 

    Compensation

    $24-$26—Depending upon experience and qualifications.

     

     

  • Organist


    Classification: Exempt (part time)            Reports to: Pastor

    Purpose of the position:                 

    Play the organ and piano for worship services, special services, and rehearsals.


    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Accompanies congregational hymns and other musical selections during worship services. 

    2. Accompanies the choir and other ensembles/soloists in weekly rehearsals and during worship services. 

    3. May lead a rehearsal when requested. 

    4. Plans and presents two-three musical selections for each Sunday services and special services that complement scriptural readings and the Pastor’s themes.  

    5. Provides a variety of musical styles to the glory of God.

    6. Consults, prepares and plays appropriate music for weddings, funerals, and memorial services for additional compensation. 

    7. Schedules rehearsal with soloists or other special musical participants.  

    8. Make recommendations for piano and organ maintenance to the Music Minister. 

    9. Coordinate the maintenance of the piano humidifier with the Music Minister. 

    10. Maintains musical skills through practice. 

    11. Arranges for substitute on Sunday when not available to accompany worship service, based on Minister of Music approval.  

    12. Provides information about music selections to the Pastor and Administrative Assistant for inclusion in worship outline and PowerPoint. 

    13. Meets with the Music Minister and Pastor to plan music for services.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    Education:  Degree in piano/organ, piano collaboration, or equivalent.

    Experience:  At least a year accompanying choirs and congregational singing.

    Skills:

    1. Possesses effective skills in piano and organ performance. 

    2. Proficient in musical knowledge as well as theological knowledge relevant to music in worship. 

    3. Proficient in reading music and sight reading.  

    4. Ability to communicate with staff and church members.  

    5. Ability to follow directions and the ability to give clear directions to ensemble members.  

    6. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

    7. Ability to work with amateur musicians in a supportive manner.

    Evaluation:

    An annual performance review will be conducted by the Pastor and the Human Resource Commission.  The Human Resource Commission will annually review the adequacy of compensation.


    Compensation: 

    $23,000-$25,000 per year depending upon education, certification and experience.
