Looking for a place you can feel like you belong? Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you are welcome at Mission del Sol. Bring your doubts, your convictions, your questions, and your energy. We are not perfect, but we are seeking to experience the love of God and to share it with others. We are an open, inclusive congregation that believes in God's love for all people, and we stand committed to serving our neighborhood, city, and world. All are welcome all the time.
CURRENT WORSHIP EXPERIENCE
Here is some information about what to expect when you arrive for worship at Mission del Sol.
In-Person Attendance: Please join us for in-person worship. There are designated Mask Only sections in the sanctuary for those who prefer to sit with those wearing masks.
Offering: If you would like to support the ministries of Mission del Sol, a labeled offering plate is in the narthex. Please place gifts in the offering plate as you enter the sanctuary.
Families: When families arrive at the church there are crayon packs and children's bulletins at the welcome table for kids and teens to pick up. Bring completed pages to Pastor Kelsy for a prize after worship. Kids in Preschool through 5th grade are invited to attend Sunday School in room 108 of the Christian Education Building following the Children's Sermon. Teens are to stay in worship. If your child or baby needs a little more space, please see an usher about the Calming Room mentioned below. We invite you to join us virtually on Facebook Live or in person.
Where are we located?
We are located on the south side of 1565 E. Warner Road, Tempe, Arizona between Rural Road and McClintock Road. You may enter our property from Warner Road on either the east or west side of the church. Handicapped parking is located on the west side with additional parking on the east, west and south sides.
In which building is the worship service held?
Our property includes three buildings, all of which are handicap accessible. The Sanctuary, offices and Mission Hall are all one level with handicap accessible bathrooms. The Education wing is accessible on the first floor with an elevator to reach the second floor. The church faces Warner Road and is entered from one of three doors on the south side. A Palo Verde Garden and Meditation Circle rest between the church and Mission Hall, south of which stands the Christian Education building.
-
All three entrances of the church lead to the center space called the “Narthex” where our greeters will help you find your way around and answer any questions.
-
Following worship, we enjoy fellowship with one another at Mission Hall where light snacks and beverages are offered.
Are Children Welcome to Attend Worship?
Children are always welcome to worship with their families. On the way into the sanctuary, parents may choose an activity bag appropriate for children ages 3-10 which includes books for reading, coloring and other activities to be used during the service.
There is a special time for children midway through the service when children through age 10, are invited to sit together in the front of the sanctuary for a Children’s Sermon designed just for them. After the message, children may return to sit with their family or go to Sunday School where they learn more about Bible stories that follow our Sermon Series through age appropriate activities.
Is Childcare Available
For parents with infants and toddlers, a nursery is available during the church service and Sunday School times. A safe and secure environment is staffed by qualified caregivers. When you make your interest known to a greeter, they will escort you to the Christion Education building where the nursery is located. You are welcome to check in with your little one as often as you wish.
We also offer a Calming Room with rocker/recliners in the church for parents who wish to care for their children while still experiencing the worship service. It is located to the right of the Narthex when entering the main doors of the church or to the left after leaving the sanctuary. A greeter will be happy to show the room to you.
Is There a Place for My Teenager?
We encourage tweens and teens to attend worship either with their family or with our youth.
Our youth group for middle and high schoolers meets weekly and work on service projects, take mission trips, participate in youth retreats or enjoy a variety of recreational activities throughout the year.
Who can take communion?
Communion is celebrated the first Sunday of every month. You do not need to be a member of Mission del Sol to receive Communion. This is God’s House and God’s table. We are hosts welcoming and caring for one another until each of us meet God in our lives.
As such, we make the sacraments of faith available to all who wish to receive them. This includes children who chose to attend Sunday School. They will return to the sanctuary to receive communion with their families.
Do you need hearing Assistance?
We want you to be able to hear the message. By making your hearing needs known to a greeter, an amplification device will be made available for your use.
Who is our Pastor?
Kelsy Brown joined us at Mission del Sol in May 2020 after serving in two other churches for 9 years. Pastor Kelsy encourages us to know God’s love and mercy through the joys and trials of life.
She has been instrumental in creating virtual Sunday services, Monday Meditations on Facebook, book studies, and in-person small groups, as well as Coffees with Kelsy which kept us connected with one another and with God during the pandemic.
What is the typical dress for Sunday worship service?
Dress in whatever is most comfortable to you. While some will be in a coat and tie or dresses, others will be dressed in jeans or something casual. It's what's in the heart, not the outward appearance, that matters most.
Will i be expected to donate?
During the children’s sermon, pocket change is collected and donated to Kyrene Elementary School to support the educational needs of low income students. An offering is collected later during the worship service. Anything you choose to contribute should be done with a joyful heart in response to God’s calling. Offerings support the operation of the church facility, as well as many outreach and mission projects both locally and internationally. It is not a requirement to give.
Will I be Expected to join?
You are welcome to worship in our community of faith. Membership is not required, and Mission del Sol can be your “church home” without joining. The natural progression of becoming involved at MdS is often to become a member. Membership classes are available for those interested. Membership allows you to vote on important matters of our church’s operation.
How can I get involved?
There are many ways to participate in the life of the church. Events are listed in the bulletin and newsletter. We offer groups for many purposes such as bible study, social activities, youth ministry, etc. There are many mission and outreach ministries we work with which provide opportunities to serve those in need.
Our purpose is to Share God's love and grace with all people and celebrate the truth of Jesus Christ.
